Steal From A Master

They’ve likely stolen from someone else before.

So don’t feel bad.

Here’s how to do it if you really want me to walk you through the process.

1. I just went to Seth Godin’s blog and read this post:

Your autobiography
Even the longest biography is only 66 hours on audio. This means that the author has to leave out almost everything.

We write our own autobiography each day by deciding what to focus on, what to rehash, and what to worry about.

The same life story can be told in many ways, and the way we tell it changes who we are and who we become.

Who is editing your version?

2. Either respond or rework to your liking.

Example #1

What will they say?
When I don’t take my meds, I cry when I jog. I save the tears for the moment I’m covered in sweat. That way, no one can tell I’m thinking about what people will say at my funeral.

And honestly, I want people to submit their words to me beforehand.

That way I can edit them. It is MY funeral after all. Shouldn’t I be in control of what they say?

Example #2

How To Write A Biography In A Day

“Even the longest biography is only 66 hours on audio. This means that the author has to leave out almost everything.”

Seth Godin wrote this on his blog the other day. He’s right. So here’s a simple way to leave your legacy quickly. (Because tomorrow isn’t promised, etc.)

1. Sit down and record a voice note of you telling your life story.

2. Send it to me along with a check for $10K.

3. Include an emergency contact: in case you die next week, I need to know who to send it to when I’m finished.

And if your life was boring, don’t worry. I’ll make some cool shit up for you.
